Mineral

Selenium

A trace element with powerful antioxidant and thyroid-supporting properties.

What It Is

Selenium is an essential trace mineral and a structural component of selenoproteins, including glutathione peroxidase — one of the body's key antioxidant enzymes. It plays a critical role in thyroid hormone metabolism, DNA synthesis, and protection against oxidative damage. South African soils are notably selenium-poor, making supplementation particularly relevant.

What It Does

  • Protects cells from oxidative damage
  • Supports thyroid hormone conversion
  • Boosts glutathione activity
  • May reduce inflammation
  • Supports fertility in both sexes

Clinical Considerations

Selenium has a narrow therapeutic window — too much is toxic. All IV doses are carefully calibrated. Not suitable for self-administration.
