Amino Acid

Taurine

A conditionally essential amino acid that supports heart function, electrolyte balance, and antioxidant activity.

What It Is

Taurine is the most abundant amino acid in the heart, brain, and muscle tissue. Unlike most amino acids, it is not incorporated into proteins but functions as a cellular osmolyte, bile acid conjugator, and neuromodulator. It plays a critical role in cardiovascular function, retinal health, and the regulation of calcium within cells. It is often depleted by intense exercise or stress.

What It Does

  • Supports heart muscle function
  • Regulates electrolyte balance in cells
  • Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory
  • Supports eye health (retina)
  • Reduces exercise-induced muscle damage

Clinical Considerations

Extremely well tolerated. No established toxicity at therapeutic doses. A standard clinical screening applies.
